How it is calculated
- Amavasya date: The day on which Amavasya tithi is running at your town's sunrise. If the tithi starts and ends between two sunrises (Kshaya tithi), the earlier sunrise day.
- Tamil month: If the Sun's sign change (sankramanam) is before your town's sunset, the month starts that day; if after, the next day.
- Thirukanitham method: Calculated with NASA JPL's DE421 ephemeris.
Calendars that follow the Vakya method may differ by a day. Please follow your family's tradition or your priest's advice.
